Canon M50 Mark II: Mirrorless Camera Review (For Beginners)
As a wedding and portrait photographer, and a Canon Explorer of Light, I was excited to get my hands on the new EOS M50 Mark II camera. Over the past few weeks, I've had the chance to use it in a variety of different scenarios and I have to say, I'm impressed.
First off, let's talk about the camera's appearance. It comes in white, which is super cute, but it's also a very functional and easy-to-use camera. I think it has a specific demographic in mind - food photographers, Instagrammers, and product photographers will all appreciate the image quality that this camera provides. Vloggers and YouTubers will also appreciate the upgrades that Canon has made to this camera, specifically for them.
Now, let's talk about the specs. The EOS M50 Mark II has a 24.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 processor. This means you can print photos as big as 24x36 inches without losing any quality. The camera also has dual-pixel autofocus, which is a huge improvement over older focusing systems. This makes it much easier to focus on the subjects you want to photograph, especially when you're shooting people.
All of the photos you see in this post were edited with my Vanessa Joy presets and production pack. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the black and white presets like "faded" and "punchy" as well as the color presets like "bright and colorful" and "fresh and clean." Keep in mind that these photos were taken with a pre-production camera, so they were shot in JPEGs and not RAW.
One of the biggest improvements that the EOS M50 Mark II has over its predecessor is the autofocus performance. It is wildly improved, making it much easier to focus on subjects that are further away. This is especially helpful when you're trying to photograph kids who are running around. The camera also has AI servo capabilities in video mode, which means it will find your face and track it as you move around. This is a game-changer for vloggers and anyone who films themselves.
The camera also has a built-in flash and a hot shoe for attaching other accessories, like external flashes. It has one SD card slot for storing your photos and videos, and it can shoot in RAW, compact RAW, and JPEG. It can also shoot 4K video and has vertical video capabilities.
Overall, I think the EOS M50 Mark II is a great camera for a variety of different types of photographers. If you're a food photographer, Instagrammer, or product photographer, you'll appreciate the image quality. If you're a vlogger or YouTuber, you'll appreciate the upgrades that Canon has made specifically for you. The improved autofocus performance and AI servo capabilities make it a great option for anyone who wants to take their photography and videography to the next level.
